What is Canoodle One night I had the craving for Beef Noodle Soup and other Taiwanese dishes. But what sucked was … I wasn’t in Taiwan. I had to find a place in Shanghai. Unfortunately, I don’t know too many Taiwanese restaurants in Shanghai, only the the chains like Bellagio and Charmant. But I was looking for something more hole-in-the-wallish. I found Canoodle, which is located near the Gubei area of Shanghai.
What did I eat? With a name that had the word “noodle” included, you’d expect I’d order noodles. But I did not. I like rice …I just do. So when I saw the classic dish – fried pork on rice – I knew I had to order it. Mr. S promptly ordered the beef noodle soup, even though he had the same dish elsewhere that day for lunch. We also got some yummy popcorn chicken and chewy chicken tendons.
Constructive Criticism The noodles were not bad and something I should have ordered. But I only wish the soup was more pipping hot. Taiwanese soups are known to be so hot, that they will burn mouths. The fried pork chop itself had a nice crispness and a little flavor, but not something I would recommend. I didn’t care for the included “greens” in the dish. The popcorn chicken didn’t have enough spice or white pepper in each bite. I preferred it to be more hot.
The Last Word Canoodle isn’t that bad. Though I honestly won’t recommend it to anyone. But I would go again, if I am in the area for a quick fix. But I would like to still keep searching for good small hole-in-the-wall Taiwanese restaurants.
