柚’s Yuzu Japanese Kitchen, Taipei

By The Thirsty Pig

What is 柚’s Yuzu is a Japanese restaurant that also offers sushi. Tucked away in a alley, Yuzu offers a dining experience that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Taipei. I have to admit, it was tough to find, based on the address – yet that’s a good thing. The restaurant itself isn’t very big, but has one roomy private dining room in the back.

What did I eat? We settled on the set menu for 1800 NTD. The set menu consisted of an appetizer, a selection of sashimi, broiled black cod, steamed mussels with radish, Sukiyaki (with way too much meat), crab soup, and an amazing green tea ice cream and fruit dessert. Impressed I was with the black cod and steamed mussels. I like the crispiness and flakiness of the buttery cod. I enjoyed the texture of the mussels with the hidden radish just below. The sashimi was fine, nothing more/nothing less. And there was just way too much meat with the sukiyaki, which was by no means a fault of the restaurant. But the amazing thing of the night was the dessert – with the green tea ice cream and fruit. What you do is take the pastry cookie with the green tea ice cream and insert the fruit. Each of the fruit has a different flavor including extra sweet and extra sour. The contrasting flavors with the creaminess of the green tea ice cream was amazing.

The Last Word The space with each of the different dish’s presentation make Yuzu a decent experience. It was an enjoyable night with good fare & good friends.
