Quite possibly the best egg tart in Shanghai. Indeed!

Written boldly above their shop, in a permanent sign fixture, Lillian’s Cake Shop’s sign read in Chinese, translated – Quite Possibly the best egg tart in Shanghai. This little hole-in-the-wall, literally, looks like an after thought of a business in the bustling shopping district in Shanghai. With crowds mowing by, a bus stop just feet away, and two foreigners – myself and Mr. B, stop by to find heavenly delight in the cup of our hands.

These warm cute yellow egg tarts are the perfect snack on day out and about. As you munch on the tarts you can envision how Dim Sum restaurants would try to steal the master recipe from Lillian’s. The crust, an afterthought as it should be, was flaky just enough and buttery just enough.

Like Ernie Banks … It was so good, I had two!

What to Order: Egg Tarts What not to Order: Ignore everything else – but I’m sure they are pretty good, too.
