Seolleongtang at Gammeeok, in NYC Koreatown. Korean Tang’s are the best for a cold winter night. We also had the spicy oxtail soup (Sogogi Gukbap) and kimchi pancake (Jeon). Unfortunately the seolleongtang was not popping hot and the broth was slightly lacking in flavor - had to pepper it more than usual. But the Sogogi Gukbap was really good and flavorful, without any help. The kimchi jeon was decent.
Afternoon tea at Balthazar. Pomme Frites, Profiteoles, and a bottle of Aval Cider.
Holidays at the Rockefeller Center. We also saw a successful marriage proposal on the ice. Heard a nice show a Saks Fifth Avenue Department Store. And saw a replica at the LEGO store.
Lunch we had the momofuku ramen, spicy hozon ramen, and a couple of pork buns. I liked the pork belly with the shredded pork shoulder in my ramen. My wife liked the fried chickpeas in the hozon. We both enjoyed the crispness of the pork belly in the bun. Wife was ok with the noodles.
Rou Jia Mou, Spicy Lamb Noodles, and Spicy Chicken Noodles. Too bad they were out of the cold noodles 涼皮. No soup, but quite saucy. The rou jia mou, the Chinese Burger was nice and moist (肥). Next time we need the cold noodles
Stumbled across Bryant Park, with loads of ice skaters, on our way home to Brooklyn. Thought about getting some skates to show off some old skills, but decided to rest my feet. Saw the Empire State Building. Also saw a frozen water fountain.
Views of Lady Liberty on the Staten Island Ferry.
An afternoon Saw works from there is an excellent exhibit featuring works from China after 1989.
Finally. Got a couple of franks from I had the cheese & onions and a sauerkraut. Yummy. The dogs had a good snap. Also had a virgin pina colada
Harlem Fried Chicken at Sylvia’s Restaurant. Also had some bbq ribs, but was unfortunately dry - seems liked it was sitting under a heat lamp for awhile. The fried chicken was awesome - tender and flavorful. Wife thought the fried chicken was slightly too salty. Enjoyed the waffle, corn bread, collard greens, and the baked Mac & Cheese. The green beans were - eh.
The Cadillac Burger Legend has it Nat King Cole named the bacon burger the “Cadillac of Burgers” at PJ Clarkes. Opened in 1884, they are known for their raw seafood bar and burgers. Tonight we had the Cadillac Burger, the Burger, the Deluxe Tower, Crab Cakes, and Seared Dry Sea Scallops. Solid burger and fresh seafood - in an historic NYC restaurant.
