You know I had to have some BBQ …
While I was in the Pacific Northwest, visiting an old classmate, I was tasked to choose a cuisine/restaurant. So I picked BBQ and found @jonesgotmeat Jones BBQ in Victoria, BC. From the website, they do Texas style bbq with post oak. So, I had high hopes!
So I ordered Brisket, Pork Ribs, and Sausage. And we had salad, Cole slaw, and pulled pork Poutine - since we’re in Canada. The pork ribs and sausage we good as expected- hard to mess that up. The brisket tasted good - but my gripe was the slices and the lack of seasoning. The slices could have been full slices and I felt the brisket could have had more seasoning on the bark. Usually there is more seasoning, since Texas bbq joints will provide/offer white bread to offset it. But I’ve seen more and more bbq restaurants reduce the seasoning so you don’t need the white bread. Even competition bbq has brisket without a lot of seasoning. But I guess that’s just me, I had good bbq in Austin - and that how they do it. But other than that it was good.
Anyways. The star of the show was the pulled pork poutine. Yum! I like poutine and to also add pulled pork - this made it even more delish. There were cheese curds and some gravy, plus I think there was a little sweetness from the bbq sauce on the pulled pork. Then the sliced scallions brighten everything up, too. Yeah, this is what you order at Jones BBQ
My friend really enjoyed this place and said they would go again. I’d recommend this place too - except maybe not the brisket, but definitely the poutine… . @jonesgotmeat @jay.li15
