Barbecue at Blake’s Place in the OC. This neighborhood bbq joint has a pretty good following. They specialize in bbq sandwiches.

This is the place with @rainaiscrazy does her eating feats with their famous “The Beast” sandwich. I wasn’t about to try. Anyways.

I had the sliced brisket, brisket burnt ends, and the nachos. I was really disappointed with the sliced brisket since they cut off or ripped off the smoke ring edges from the brisket. It looked like a gray plate of blah. Wtf. Why would anyone cut off the flavor of the meats to be served this way??? After discussing with the nice server she encouraged me to try the burnt ends. I’ve never had burnt ends from beef brisket. It was a little better. The nachos were ok, but nothing to write home about. I understand what Blake’s is doing - since they are mostly a sandwich shop. They serve chopped brisket this way. But I would assume with the recent bbq joints popping up all over Southern California - they would have to up their game as well. I’m sure they’ve seen the competition and know what is nowadays acceptable bbq and what is not.
