What is Le Cafe des Stagiaires?

Le Cafe is a typical neighborhood bar that you’ll find on almost on any street in Europe. Except that it is located in Shanghai, Le Cafe has every bit of warming charm that draws good beer and conversation. The restaurant/bar looks as if it has been there for years, with the selection of furniture, details, and picture frames.

What did I eat? I didn’t really eat at Stagiaires – just a beer – the 20 RMB Chouffe. They have one of the best happy hours – 10 RMB for Ricard, 20 RMB House Wine (red, white rosé), 20 RMB Belgian Chouffe. I believe happy hour, from 4pm to 8pm, is every day.

I noticed the blackboard menu had cheese, cold cuts (meats), and some pastries. Next time, I’ll try some of the cheese and breads.

WTF Opening a restaurant in Shanghai is unique in that most restaurants don’t need to consider parking. Being that I am from LA, parking is always an issue. The only parking available in the area is 10 RMB an hour. Parking in Shanghai sucks. Yes, I know this isn’t Le Cafe des Stagiaires’ problem… just my gripe.

The Last Word It appears that Le Cafe has a great location. A small quiet lane street. Yet, their success and popularity is causing problems with the neighbors that live upstairs. Not entirely their fault since other proprietors also offer outdoor street seating as well. But I think the enzyme of alcohol contributes to the potential rowdiness.

Anyways…Stagiaires is a cool place to bring friends to relax over a beer or two.
