The Cook at Kerry Hotel in Pudong was our first visit for Restaurant Week this year, here in Shanghai. The Cook restaurant is a unique concept which blends buffet style, but not an all inclusive all you can eat, with distinct cuisine bars, such as Western, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, Cheese, Deli, Noodle, and a great dessert bar.

During Shanghai’s Restaurant Week – which is going on from September 5 till the 11th, they are offering a 3 different set menus, which is unusual, since other participating restaurants only offer one specially designed one.

Of the three, since I got a chance to taste each of them, each of them have good traits. The best value would be the Japanese Corner with the sashimi, cod, and tempura. The best tasting would be the Chinese wok’s braised King Prawns. But my favorite dish, since I had been to the Cook before, was the Linguini with Clams. I’ve always liked Linguini with Clams. I should also note that the dessert – some cream with tart tangerine, ok.

Also, make sure you check out Brew, the bar/brewery at the Kerry Hotel. They have some of the best beers in Shanghai. Each of the beers, the 6 different ones, are handcrafted in house. The dark beer – the Dugite Vanilla Stout, resembling a Guinness, had a smooth flavor. It was even suggested that a large scoop of ice cream would go hand in hand. Next time I’ll try that. The Razorback Cider ale was also quite tasty, if regular beers aren’t your thing. My friend throughly enjoyed the Pils, a light colored pilsner beer. I’ll put a separate post about the Brew next time.

I’d recommend to return again, but make sure you save room for the dessert bar. If you have a sweet tooth, you’re a goner. There’s ice cream, cakes, and candies. Lots of fun if you’re a kid.
