Da Marco 大马可意大利餐厅, Shanghai
Da Marco is a classic Italian restaurant chain in Shanghai. They feature many popular favorites.
We looking for a simple restaurant in the Xujiahui area after a morning get together with my classmates. I hate to say, Da Marco’s was a choice by default, since we couldn’t find anything else nearby. Everything else was sort of fast food or food court.
But I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. Like a McDonald’s, you can sort of expect popular Italian selections from their menu. Today, we had fried calamari, a mushroom soup, a linguine dish, a beef entree, and a lasagna. We each had a mushroom soup that was flavorful, but not as hot as I would like. I expect soups to be tongue scorchingly hot. The calamari seemed to be breaded a little too much to my liking. But I did enjoy my lasagna. The pasta was cooked just right. The sauce and cheese blended just fine. Perhaps the cheese could have added more flavor.
Da Marco’s is a place I could return if I was looking for some familiar Italian food without thinking.
Update – The original location is one of the finer Italian restaurants in Shanghai. I would fully return and recommend someone craving for pasta and good Italian food to check out the Jing’An location
What to Order: maybe Lasagna What not to Order: Calamari and Soup (needs to be hotter)
