Sunday Brunch at the Stage – The Westin Bund Center, Shanghai
When I think of a hotel’s Sunday brunch, I think of a lavish food spread with all kinds of goodies with Bloody Mary’s and Champagne’s flowing. It’s time to be with family and friends to relax and enjoy food at your own pace. Yet when I went to the Westin, they took this concept to another higher level.
The Sunday Brunch at the Westin is located at their large lobby space called the Stage. Situated in sky-lit enclosed surrounded by hotel rooms, this airy space almost feels like you’re outdoors. People were enjoying their brunch with sunglasses, in doors. The crowd is mostly expats with their families, taking in a slow Sunday heading into the early afternoon. We got a table with large plush chair right by the staircase.
The selection of different cuisine was abundant. There were all sorts of Chinese selections from rice and noodles, to meats and vegetables. Nearby, we saw mini pastries and baked goods to satisfy the sweet and savory cravings. Toward the back, one of the most popular areas was the sushi and king crab leg table, people were almost fighting to snatch a leg or two or ten. I personally searched and found the egg station to make my favorite scrambled eggs and pick up a mini quiche. Upstairs on the 2nd floor, there was even an Italian section with pizzas and pastas, not to mention the Italian desserts like cannoli’s.
What makes the Westin different from all other Brunches is their entertainment. Off on a corner there was a pianist massaging the keys with notes that filled the air. Later on we treated to some pretty good Flamenco dancers. Sexy red dress, I must say. Then a 20 piece orchestra played above our heads on the staircase above, opera singers, too. It was almost too much, for just brunch. But in Shanghai, this is how you do it. But I have to mention the best part of the entertainment – the Clown. This guy was hilarious and knew how to play the crowd and have fun with the kids. After all, this place is for families.
