Slurping Ramen at Kin

By The Thirsty Pig

We’ve been hearing so much about Kin with the different events, that we should also remember that Kin also does food, and pretty good, too. Kin is a boutique that features streetwear and goods, that you’d typically find in the US. But Kin is also a ramen house – that you’d most likely not find inside a boutique. But then again, I shouldn’t be surprised to find some darn good Japanese style ramen, either.

Gary Wang, of nightclub Shelter, developed this combination boutique and ramen house to evoke an atmosphere of causality and comfortness. The bright lights of the gallery/boutique with the colorful shoes and clothes has you switching moods, as you walk into the airy patio dining area. There’s large wood tables for people to amuse themselves online, relax with a cup of java, and or enjoy a pipping hot bowl of ramen. Come for the gear and stay for the ramen at Kin.

Kin is a small ramen bistro located in the back of a street wear boutique. You wouldn’t know it if you walked by. The courtyard dining area is a nice place to enjoy a light meal.

We started off with a scrumptious citrus duck salad. The tangy oranges melds nicely with the slivers of hearty duck.

Fried Spring Rolls! Always a nice treat. Crispy on the outside and delectable on the inside. I always smile (on the inside and out) when I see spring rolls.

Ramen. Rated as one of the best in Shanghai - Kin’s ramen is famous for the time and effort they put into it. They cooked the meat for hours on end. The rich broth is savory and hearty (I said that already) and the egg. THE EGG! the poached egg is just right - with a slightly runny yolk - perfect!

Check out the cool details of the chopsticks. Kin pays attention to the slightest details, which make all the difference.

Look at this egg! I love it! I think this is much better than the standard hard-boiled egg.

Mac and Cheese. I know why I ordered it… yet I would still order it, again. But if there is one thing Kin can improve on … its the Mac and Cheese. There wasn’t much flavor in this gooey dish.

The homemade lemon bar. The crusty and sweet graham cracker cuts right through the lemony sourness - great combination. I’m glad I had it, though I didn’t have much room in my stomach.
