Arguably, the best happy hour on the Pudong side of Shanghai is at Morton’s the Steakhouse at the IFC shopping center. I recently had a chance to sample their great deal – for RMB 38 martini’s and complimentary petite filet mignon steak sandwiches. You could also get cosmopolitan, or appletini, or chocolate martini. I know I must have had 4 or 5 of these little sandwiches to go along with my 4 extra dirty vodka martini’s. I don’t consider myself a martini drinker, but if push comes to shove, I’d gladly take an extra dirty one with 3 or 4 olives. The only gripe I had was the smallish size of the green olives, with hand-stuffed blue cheese. I like the big juicy ones.

For those of you who don’t know about Morton’s, Morton’s the Steakhouse (which I knew to be known as Morton’s of Chicago) is a classic American Steak house or Chophouse specializing in good old American steaks. Morton’s uses Australian beef, where as House of Roosevelt uses USDA beef, most likely flown in through Vietnam. Regardless, the little steak sandwiches are yummy.

Happy hour, from Monday to Friday, lasts only from 5pm till 7pm. I also strongly suggest that you get there early to get a nice spot on the outdoor balcony. Though their indoor bar stool seating area is fine, the outdoor views of the Shanghai Pearl Tower, with the sun going down, makes for a great happy hour.
