Chicken and Hof Seoul . . .WTF SPICY!!

By The Thirsty Pig

Korean love their chicken. They absolutely love their chicken spicy. I don’t think there is anything in American cuisine that comes close to this level of pain. We stopped by Chicken and Hof, as a late night snack after drinking with some friends to enjoy some spicy chicken.

I wanted to enjoy this dish. Really I did… Yet after two pieces, my mouth and lips were on fire. While my Korean friends, with Mr. B, happily devoured the chicken with their spicy pain threshold wasn’t met. This was just another instance of my underestimation of my tolerance level.

Understandably, there was some salt and cold radish slices to sooth the palates. I know salt is used in Mexican cuisines to reduce spiciness. But for myself – it was futile. The cold radishes… well they provided temporary relief. I thought my lips were pulsating with pain or swollen a large unthinkable size. Was this a meal or was this torture?

Another dish we had was the steamed egg. This was take on the Japanese Chawanmushi, but only larger. This was the first time I had this dish. Thank goodness it wasn’t spicy. Mr. B laughed when I asked if this was going to be spicy.

But I do think the beer helped a bit. Funny thing is … I thought we came here after a night of drinking and fun to fill our bellies and sober up, yet we continued this night of rampage. The cool thing about Chicken and Hof is that they open late till 6am, only to also open at 11am.
