On chilly cold days, in my humble opinion, there’s nothing better than a nice hot bowl of soup. On a suggestion, I decided to try Urban Soup Kitchen, near Xintiandi.

The little restaurant, with only a couple of tables, does most of its business via take-out and delivery via Sherpas. Not only soups, Urban Soup Kitchen also features sandwiches and salads. One glance at the menu, it’ll seem if your at your favorite lunch place at home in the US.

Today, we decided on a Cauliflower Cheese Soup, Tomato Garlic Soup, the BLT, and a Roasted Chicken Salad. The pipping hot soups came out first, with the cheese on the side for the cauliflower one. The tomato soup look rich and appetizing with the bright orange color. It had a grainy look with the bits and pieces of the tomato and garlic. Wonderful in taste, it did not feel heavy. This was my favorite, that afternoon. The cauliflower soup with the cheese was an interesting mix. Though there was not a lot of flavor, the texture had some appeal. I didn’t think the cheese was needed much.

The BLT and the salad soon arrived. I like the simple sandwiches such as the BLT, but unfortunately, the I wouldn’t have chosen a large bread roll for the BLT. The large encompassing crust was almost overkill with just bacon, tomato, and some lettuce. Outside of the crust, I liked the BLT. The roast chicken salad was really nice. Miss Y had picked wisely. The abundant chicken with the fresh lettuce contrasted well. I liked how it didn’t have too much heavy dressing. But what else can you say about a chicken salad?

Look for Rick, the owner, making sure his soups, sandwiches, and salads reminiscent of the tastes back in the states. Though I was critical of the the cauliflower soup and BLT, I would definitely return to Urban Soup Kitchen.

What to Order: Tomato Garlic Soup, Actually I would try any of the other soups What not to Order: BLT with the large bread roll and Cauliflower soup
