On a recent trip back to the US, I feeling a little hungry while waiting for my flight. Feeling adventurous, at the Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG), I went searching for something to put in my mouth. I remembered that there was a KFC near the Maglev station – between Terminal One and Two. So, as I moseyed up to KFC, I noticed that there was a food court.
Down this lengthwise food court, I saw KFC, Pizza Hut, a Bruce Lee’s Kung Fu fast food restaurant, and a couple of other Chinese fast food restaurants. I choose to try 东方既白 – translated as Eastern Sunrise.
Hungrily, I picked a set meal, which featured a chicken leg. With white rice, with braised pork sauce, the set also included four little steamed dumplings, a mushroom cucumber salad, and a soda. The chicken leg was tasty and sweet, though it might have been too sweet for most westerners. The mushroom cucumber salad, which was more like dark fungus, was not to my liking, a personal preference. The steamed dumplings were a bit soggy and not that appealing, either. But I did enjoy the rice and the chicken leg. To finish it off, I also ordered a sweet egg tart – that I enjoyed much so.
As the 3rd busiest airport in the world, the Pudong food court was too small to handle. In addition, the location, was too far from either Terminal – and perhaps would only serve those going on the Maglev. Plus, there weren’t any signs about this food court. I know that there are a couple of restaurants located between the ticketing and arrivals floors, which is still not enough. But I’ve read, on Shanghaiist, that Terminal 2 has a better selection of restaurants. Also, I know that the food selections, after you pass customs, is quite sparse as well. I hope they improve that as well.
