Drinking tea is an event in its own self. The importance of tea can be seen in the tea ceremonies of Japan, the teahouses of Taiwan, and the tea shops in China. Chamate, located in Xintiandi, offers an assortment of teas – hot and cold, with light snacks and entrees.

With an emphasis on tea – Chamate takes great strides in making your tea consuming experience just right. The relaxing drinking (and dining) area features a long room length community table. With free wifi access, you could literally lose yourself. I like the fact that you could even light up.

I was with a friend in Chamate, just killing time. I decided on a chilled tea – kungfu tea 功夫泡. I was told, recently, that chilled teas have just as much effectiveness as hot brewed tea. Yet, not all teas can be chilled. If you do plan to chill a tea – make sure you refrigerate it for at least 4 hours.

With this 1st location in Xintiandi, Chamate has expanded with locations all over China, since 2002. I’m happy to know that Chamate also has a location just a couple of kilometers away from where I live. I know I will visit them soon again.
