You know I had to have some BBQ . . . While I was in the Pacific Northwest, visiting an old classmate, I was tasked to choose a cuisine/restaurant. So I picked BBQ and found Jones BBQ in Victoria, BC.

Barbecue at . Check out that roast pork belly with the crispy skin. That was prob at the best thing we had today. The brisket and beef rib were also tremendous. The big Dino Beef Rib was great and gla
Unfortunately for a guy like me with a gout condition, this was a special and rare occasion for me to have AYCE beef or steak. I don’t have it often. Yes I know this is a contradiction since I’m also a certified Barbecue judge. But at least this allows me to savor beef when I have on rare occasions. Anyways . . . My friends and I all would recommend and would gladly return. . . . .group .0
Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. But I would give it another chance to see if they would either improve or if today was an off day. Its too bad, since you see the big in the back - so one of think they know what they are doing. . . . .
I want to discuss the frito pie. Interestingly I grew up in Southern California and I had the frito pie when I playing little league. And it wasn’t called that back then. I knew it as pepper bellies - and some times it included beans. I would argue with some of my Midwest friends about this nomenclature about the correct name, which was a non-winning expenditure of mental effortness - which I regret. But after all these not having pepper bellies - it took me back to the good old days of little league. Makes me want to make some at home. . . .
TBH . . .I am not sure I would make the drive again, since it is so far. But if I was to go again, I would try to sneak out during the week, not the weekend. Those lines can get long. Though I might not go again, I do recommend. . . . . 💯
Barbecue at Blake’s Place in the OC. This neighborhood bbq joint has a pretty good following. They specialize in bbq sandwiches. This is the place with does her eating feats with their famous “The Bea
Amazing meal. But we could only finish about a third. So much to bring home. Pro-tip- the bread under the meats is like GOLD. The bread acts like a sponge to soak all the juices and is soft and juicy. . . .
Barbecue from APL. Beef rib, pork ribs, pulled pork, cornbread, and stuffed pig trotter. Amazing bbq from a Hall of Famer and YETI ambassador - APL Adam Perry Lang. The boneless pig trotter was stuffed with sausage with crispy skin - was absolutely amazing. We got in line at 11:30 with doors opening at 1pm. Was told a couple of their smokers were from Franklins. Would definitely visit again and would absolutely recommend. And worth it to stand in line. We stood in line for about 1.5 hours. . . . \_bbq
Had barbecue with my relatives at one of the most popular American Barbecue restaurants in Taipei. As a visitor to Taipei, I don’t look for western fare while overseas. But my friends know that I am a
Barbecue at Had the fatty beef brisket, bbq pork belly char siu, roast pork belly siu yuk, pork ribs, dirty rice, and mapo chili. Went with my fellow bbq judges. Big thanks to for setting it up! Glad we got there early, thank goodness for the rain, and the time change - or else we would have had to wait forever. I recommend the brisket - fatty, the roast pork belly siu yuk (if they didn't give me the burnt parts), dirty rice, and the mapo chili (which could have had more sichuan pepper corn seasoning). I'd visit again to try the beef ribs and chicken and might recommend if you're in the area. . . . .
Pulled pork and smoked burnt ends with Kings Hawaiian bread rolls at a Dodger Game. Good food and a Dodger win! What could be better? . . . . .
Smoked moist Brisket, spicy beef garlic sausage, brisket beans, Korean pork belly burnt ends, and slaw. Everything was spot on. The burnt ends were phenomenal. Only wish it had a little more char. . . . .
Weekend brunch with friends at LA Brisket. Smoked brisket, pulled chicken, slaw, brisket salad, Texas toast, and fried chicken skin. Yes I said fried chicken skin. That was unique and really good (and Keto friendly). Glad this place is in DTlA Chinatown. Not far from me. Brisket is solid. The pulled chicken was a bit over cooked unfortunately. Regardless I’d still go again and would recommend. . . . . . .chinatown
And lastly, had the dumplings. Too bad they were out of the chicken dumplings by 11am. I bet they didn’t even have that day. The pork was good. The beef was unmemorable. The veggie was ok. Their cooking style is quite traditional. Except I would have liked a more crispy skin. I think the unique fillings and wrapper colors were the big draw. I’d order again, just to try the chicken. . . . . . .
BBQ in Chinatown. LA Brisket. We ordered the OG bowl with Beef Brisket. But it was a little too dry. And the brisket slices were unexpectedly thin. Not sure about the accompanying green salsa sauce. Reminded me of salsa verde. The slaw was really good and sour - just the way I like it. The pork ribs, seemed like small portion. They taste well and had good flavor and texture (that’s the CBJ in me). The loaded fries with brisket was quite hearty, yet seemed to lack enough fries, strangely. I liked the fries a lot. The single Texas toast was good, wish they gave us another slice. Not sure if I recommend, yet. But I’d return just to try others. Brisket 7 for taste, 8 for tenderness, 7 for appearance. Pork ribs 8 taste, 8 for tenderness, and 8 for appearance. . . . . . . .chinatown
This weekend’s event was amazing to meet fellow judges and the great people in the area. They were kind to a first time judge and a judge from LA. I taste some of the best barbecue ever. These were professionals who did chicken, pork ribs, pork, and brisket. Unfortunately I cannot take photos of the food to show. But I wanted to share my experience. Great capstone to my roadtrip. . . . . . .
A gas station. But this is no ordinary gas station. This is a Buc-ee’s!!! This is the largest gas station that I have ever been to. Also, the food. OMG. They have beef jerky, nuts, bbq sandwiches, etc. also, they are known to have the cleanest restrooms. This is a crazy place. Every time I see one, I have to stop. . . . . .
Texas BBQ from Stiles Switch in Austin Texas. We ordered smoked beef brisket, pork ribs, sausage, Mac and cheese, and cole slaw. Yummy. When I lived in Austin, Stiles Switch was one of my favorites. They were ranked as one of the top 50 bbq joints in Texas. Fun weekend with some friends. . . . . . . .
Smoked meats at Wholly Smokes. Brisket, pork ribs, Tri tip, and a bunch of sides. I liked the Cajun rice, fatty beef, and the spicy bbq sauce. Cool venue with a large draft beer selection. Friendly owners and nice neighborhood vibe. . . . . . .
Santa Anita BBQ Championship at the Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia. Got to try a bunch of different bbq including, Pulled Pork Nachos, BBQ chicken, BBQ pork tenderloin, BBQ pulled pork tacos, BBQ pork ribs, BBQ beef tri tips and more. Yummy. KCBS - Kansas City Barbeque Soceity was on hand to judge 30+ BBQ entrants. You could see their trailers parked outside cooking and smoking. Also, I got to meet a BBQ legend - Harry Soo! Luckily we got there early to avoid the crowds and long lines. . . . . . . . .
APL Barbecue. Adam Perry Lang, BBQ Hall of Famer, in my neck of the woods! APL, a YETI brand ambassador, has a new barbecue joint featuring smoked Beef Ribs! Though there’s no brisket, I feel beef ribs is the holy grail of smoking. It’s unfortunate that Moo’s craft and Slab rarely serve beef rib, I’m glad APL has them. It’s strange that Angelenos haven’t realized how good beef ribs are. Anyways. Check out the big beef rib, the pork rib sandwich, cornbread, and the sides. . . . . . . .
Barbecue Day at Moo’s Craft Barbecue. Beef brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, pork belly burnt ends, sides of corn, Mac and cheese, and slaw. Yummy. Too bad they were out of beef ribs. I heard that not a lot of people are ordering beef ribs. Heck, took beef ribs off the menu. Moo told me that it isn’t that popular. People just don’t know. Smoked Beef Ribs are king if they are done right. . . . . . . . .
Texas BBQ at Slab. Had brisket, of course, pulled pork, pork ribs, collard greens, Mac and cheese and corn bread. Too bad we didn’t come on the weekends for beef ribs. The the pulled pork and pork spare ribs were tender but needed sauce. The collard greens were a bit too salty, but I still like it. The Mac and cheese was slightly too runny. The cornbread with the honey butter was nice and moist, as it should be. The brisket was great. Love brisket. Make sure you ask for white bread to eat with the brisket. Enjoyed slab. Wondered why there weren’t more people there on a Friday night. I guess it is more of a day time thing. Regardless, I’m glad there weren’t any lines. . . . . .
First attempt at making Snow’s BBQ famous pork steak. It taste really good, but it was way too tender. I was looking for a texture that was had some solid chew or mouth feel. Not something you could e
Birthday lunch with some buds at APL in Hollywood. Texas Smokin’ BBQ. Beef brisket. Also had Cornish game hen, pulled pork, pork rib,, creamed corn, and coleslaw. Way too much for lunch. But well worth it. Been wanting to go to this place ever since they opened. I don’t know how anyone thinks there is a better BBQ brisket in LA. APL is legit And the best! Only wish I had a ordered the giant beef short rib ahead of time. They were out today. ☹️. much 💛 . . . . . . .
Steak at Peter Luger’s. We had the rib steak and the steak for two. Yum! Glad we went! . . .
Texas BBQ dinner with old friends at Bludso’s. Pork Ribs, Rib Tips, Pulled Pork, and beef brisket. With collard greens and cole slaw. So much food. Yum! . . . .
Background BBQ
BBQ at in we had pork ribs, moist beef brisket, beef rib ends, shredded pork, corn bread, collard greens, and baked beans. So much food. I dig the brisket, baked beans, collard greens, and pork ribs.
Pretty good bbq pork on rice in Vegas. Make sure you ask for fatty pork!
Steaks in Vegas
Texas BBQ at yummy pulled pork and smoked brisket.
Beer can chicken, OG Ribs, kale salad, and popcorn. The chicken was nice and crispy without heavy flour type fried chicken. Salad was refreshing and acidic - good with the chicken.
Beef Brisket was good but the spicy sausage was even better. Pull pork and pork ribs were ok. I like the cabbage slaw and button mushrooms. Blantons was tasty
Tasty pork ribs - must order. Beef brisket was also great - nice thick cut with good bark. Chicarron Mac and cheese - good also. I liked the red cabbage cole slaw. Wish we got here earlier to have the, Saturday only, beef rib.
Made a trek to Lockhart, BBQ Capital of Texas. Had the smoked ham, BBQ pork chop, sausage, beef rib, and of course brisket. I like the ham and sausage more than the others. Went on Saturday with only a 40 min wait.
The BBQ from Texas Monthly 2017 my friend says the moist brisket is better than Snows and Valentina's. I think they are very close. We had to also get some .
almost 3 hour wait. Texas Monthly BBQ 2017!!! Had the most amazing and tender and moist (fatty) pork shoulder steak. Brisket was wonderful. Pork ribs was so-so. Jalapeño Sausage was outstanding
One of Texas Monthly's top 50 BBQ 2017 - . Outstanding Beef Ribs, spicy sausage, corn casserole, and coleslaw. The mustard was great with the sausage. But the brisket was a bit dry and the baby back ribs were adequate.
The holy land
Texas Toast, smoked octopus, beef brisket, beans, homemade root beer
Unbelievable boneless fried chicken Don’t forget the moist cornbread Don’t order the brisket – it’s kind of dry Make reservations, even on weekdays Oldest BBQ restaurant in LA
