Birthday lunch with some buds at APL in Hollywood. Texas Smokin’ BBQ. Beef brisket. Also had Cornish game hen, pulled pork, pork rib,, creamed corn, and coleslaw. Way too much for lunch. But well worth it. Been wanting to go to this place ever since they opened. I don’t know how anyone thinks there is a better BBQ brisket in LA. APL is legit And the best! Only wish I had a ordered the giant beef short rib ahead of time. They were out today. ☹️. much 💛 . . . . . . .
A golden grilled cheese sandwich cut into triangles on a white plate beside a bowl of creamy tomato soup.
A light lunch. Sunomono. Cucumber salad. Using Japanese cucumbers, thinly sliced. Prepped with a little salt and the water squeezed out. Then marinated with soy sauce, sugar, and rice vinegar. Done. Realized it was quite sour from the vinegar, so next time I will add more sugar. . . . . .
Made a simple cheese pizza in a cast iron pan. Listen for the sizzle of the cheese. Had to wait a little more for the dough to rise in the pan. Check out the bottom of the pizza - crispy and not burnt. Also see the nice crusty cheese bits on the edges. Really yummy pizza. recipe . . . . .
Roasted Pork Belly with crispy cracklin-like skin! Using an air fryer to make Cantonese style roast pork with traditional Chinese five spice. Yummy! Check out the crispness of the skin. After trial and error - I think I got it just right. . . . . . .

Lunch at Summer Rolls. Charbroiled pork chop rice plate Com Suon Nuong. And Banh Beo steam rice cakes with shrimp powder. Outdoor seating with Yhe COVID pandemic. Light and healthy dish. But I guess the pork chop was a little heavy . . . . . . .
Cast iron pan pizza. Learned from I had to experiment a few times in order to get the crust just right. Really like this pizza recipe. Yummy! I used regular all purpose flour. Mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and Italian sausage. One ingredient that was a hit was - crumbled spicy breakfast sausage . . . . . .

Cheeseburger Tamales! That’s right! Cheeseburger!!!! Using corn husks and pre-made mixed masa from .supermarkets I experimented and added ground beef 80/20 with burger seasoning and sharp cheddar cheese. Hand packed with a spoon. Steamed in an old rice cooker. Viola!! Done. Best served and eaten immediately. Goes great with . Yup ketchup. The classic flavor combination of a cheeseburger with ketchup and the slight flavor of the traditional corn masa. It is interesting and tastes pretty good. The strong flavors of the cheddar cheese stands out. Let me know if you would try this or if you have a unique mash up! What do you guys think? . . . . . . .supermarkets
