Outdoor brunch at Benchmark in Santa Ana. Great outdoor patio, tasty drinks, and yummy brunch. But I think the outdoor space was the best. Oh and the potatoes brava was really good too. Great to catch up with old friends. Would recommend benchmark. Weekend reservations recommended. . . . . . .restaurant
Favorite diner. This is how I think American diners should/ought to be. Stereotypical diners with staff in uniforms, classic coffee mugs, hearty meals, and great breakfasts. Only wish they had a Bloody Mary to go with the meal. Too bad they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. And now they open at 7am and close at 5pm. I hope they return to 24 hours soon. . . . .
NFL Experience in DTLA. Lots of cool things to do and see. Interesting. Great for kids. But unfortunately there are lots of lines . . . . .
Pepper Bellies. I first had this when I played little league. The snack store had this unique concoction that I never had before. It was basically regular Fritos corn chips, chili with beans, and shredded cheese. Today I made it with hormels chili without beans and shredded Mexican blended cheese. I learned that pepper bellies is a Southern California thing. Everywhere else in the US, they call it Frito Pie. . . . . .
Northeastern Chinese Cuisine at Northern Cafe. 東北菜 is one of the more under appreciated cuisines in my humble opinion. Dumplings and noodles are the hallmarks of Northeastern Chinese Cuisine. We had lamb skewers, pork pancake, beef roll, house special knife cut noodles, sauerkraut pickled pepper beef noodles, braised pork belly, and their house special soup. It return again to try their northern style hotpot and their dumplings. It’s also cool that they have private dining rooms and liquor lockers too. . . . . . .cafe .northern
Vegan Mexican. Potato pimento flautas, enchiladas verdes, and jack fruit carnitas tacos. . . . . . .
Shanghainese food in the SGV. Pan fried dumplings 生煎包 were great! After living in Shanghai for six years, you miss some of the these things. . . . . . . .
Omakase at Z Sushui. Great meal experience at a long-standing favorite. Hadn’t been there in a long time. I think Z Sushi is one of the better Sushi restaurants in the SGV. . . . . .
